Fillings

As we strive to offer our patients a preventative approach to oral health most of our patients will not need fillings on a regular basis. However, should the need arise we have a number of choices available:

Tooth Coloured Fillings

Composite resins, or tooth-coloured fillings, provide good durability and resistance to fracture in small- to mid-size fillings that need to withstand moderate pressure from the constant stress of chewing. They can be used on either front or back teeth. They are a good choice for people who prefer that their fillings look more natural. Tooth-coloured fillings are now used more often than amalgam or gold fillings, because they blend in to the tooth and look more natural.

Silver (amalgam) Fillings

Dental amalgam is the traditional silver-coloured filling we are all familiar with and has been used in dentistry for about 150 years. Although there is mercury in dental amalgam, once it is combined with the other materials in the amalgam filling, its chemical nature is changed, rendering it harmless. UK dental governing organisations, including the Department of Health, British Dental Association and British Dental Health Foundation, do not consider the use of dental amalgam poses a significant health risk.

Dentures

A denture, or partial denture, is a removable prosthesis used to replace missing teeth. Commonly referred to as ‘false teeth’, a denture is usually made of acrylic or a combination of acrylic and metal.

A partial denture is fitted to replace some missing teeth and is always attached with crowns and clasps. A full denture is indicated when all natural teeth are missing. A good set of dentures improves facial aesthetics and helps you to eat and speak properly.
